Saturday, April 29, 2017 - Dinner

So, my life down the rabbit whole got even crazier as the day went on. Not only was I going to be having dinner with Bruce and his lovely wife, Verena but Bruce had invited Greg and Sandra Morton and Martha Smith. Surreal doesn’t even begin to describe my weekend.
We ate dinner in a secluded corner of the restaurant in the hotel, which was good since we got a little loud as we laughed at Bruce’s stories. One included him reenacting a dinner that ended with his friend throwing a plate against the wall to get the attention of their waiter.
I sat next to Verena and we admired each other’s wedding rings – as they were similar styles. She pulled up a photo of the ring that she always wanted, and she explained that Bruce promised her for a future anniversary gift. It was similar to my other ring that I was wearing. So, yeah that was fun!

She showed us all some of their wedding photos on her phone – Bruce commented that it was like a four-hour photo shoot for a movie. He said he was starving since they did the photos immediately after they were married in Hawaii and a private dinner was waiting for them afterward. The photos were amazing, by the way! They even reenacted the From Here to Eternity water scene. She said that when they were planning the wedding, Bruce told her he didn’t want to go into the water for the photos, but then the day of the wedding he told her he couldn’t wait to go into the water. Men! Verena joked that one of the photos looked like Bruce was giving her CPR. It kind of did. 😊 But the rest were beautiful. They looked extremely happy. Martha yelled down the table to Bruce that her invitation must have been lost in the mail. Bruce joked back that so did the rest of his family and friends invites! They explained that it was just the two of them, the minister, photographer and assistant, and the wedding planner.

Sometime during dinner, Kate’s book came up and Bruce commented that he hoped she finishes it. He was surprised that she wasn’t finished with it as he was certain her fans would love it and that the book publisher would be anxious for it as well. He said that it would be a big hit and that the fans were chomping at the bit for it. He also said he hoped that she will get back into show business.
Near the end of dinner, Martha mentioned how so many people didn't like Francine and Sheila replied that Francine and Lee started out very similar but that they allowed Lee to grow and mature more quickly than Francine. That the audience started to like her when they finally let her character grow. Martha then said “Did you know that Lee and Francine were supposed to have been involved?” And Sheila answered, “Oh yeah, they played backgammon!” to which Martha laughed and said “What?” So, Sheila explained the comment and that they “hadn't played backgammon in years.” Martha laughed and said, “Oh, right!” and then proceeded to yell down the table to Bruce about them playing backgammon. To which Bruce didn’t comprehend and said “No, I haven’t played backgammon in a very long time!” And then Verena trying to be helpful added, “I tried to get him to play, but didn’t want to, but he’s good at chess!” I then jumped in that I hoped for her sake he played backgammon. And then I whispered what “backgammon” really meant in the terms of the show. 😊 She just laughed.

After we finished with dinner, David pulled us all over to the side and Martha regaled us with her Magda Petrak accent. She told us how she spent a lot of time in a Hungarian restaurant to develop Magda’s accent. She did it perfectly. 😊
Apparently, Greg wasn’t done tormenting me for placing my soda and mints on “HIS TABLE.” As we set to leave, he called me over to him and pulled me into his chest, the tickle of his beard in my ear, and whispered “Keep your shit off my table.” Oh yeah, he and I were going to have so much fun the next day! 😊
Sunday yet to come . . .
